Preening Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron

This Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron image is from a previous trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Rookery in Florida. It is an interesting place to photograph Florida birds. Many types of birds nest here because their nests are protected from predators because of the Alligators below the Boardwalk. Image taken with a 400mm DO lens on a Canon 7D.

    • Thanks so much Donna! This is one of my favorite birds to photograph! Years ago I was following a nesting pair above a busy street in a local town. I photographed them from nest building and then the young fledglings. Then the power utility came and trimmed the tree they were in. I actually did an ebook on the progress of the birds nesting there.

    • Thanks Steve! I especially liked the red eye as I was photographing the heron! I thought the red eye somewhat stood out against the gray heron!
