Images are from a trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR in Oceanville, NJ. There are many Osprey Platforms scattered along the Wildlife Drive at Brigantine to get interesting images of Ospreys in and near their nests. Also you can see them flying into the Platform to feed the young and get interesting Osprey nest images if you have long lenses. The Images here are along the first straight away upon entering the Wildlife Drive with Atlantic City blurred in the background. The images were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a Canon 2X Teleconverter on a Canon 1DmkIV.

A series of images of an Osprey flying onto one of the Osprey Platforms along the Wildlife Drive at the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. This series was from a few years ago. If you wait for a while along the Drive you can get some interesting images of Ospreys coming & going to the nest on the platforms. There were no chicks yet in this series of images. But you can see some nesting materials are starting to fill the platform for making the nest. All images here were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter.

These are from a previous visit to the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR, Brigantine Division in Oceanville NJ. There are many Osprey Platforms with nests scattered along the Wildlife Drive. So if you are patient and wait for the Ospreys to return you can get some interesting flight & landing images. If there are young Ospreys in the nests there is usually more activity with the adult birds bringing food and feeding the young. These are images are of a landing sequence. Images were taken with a Canon 1D mkIV with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x Canon Teleconverter. Looking at the Camera Raw Data the nest was 154 feet from the Wildlife Drive .

A photo of an Osprey bringing nesting materials to the nest on an Osprey Platform along the Wildlife Drive at the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville NJ. This was from a few years ago in May. But can not wait to photograph the Ospreys in the upcoming months along the Wildlife Drive. There are quite a few Osprey Platforms along the Wildlife Drive giving many opportunities to photograph them. You need a fairly long lens unless you want to severely crop your images. These images was taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 2X Teleconverter.

On a visit years ago in the Spring to Blackwater NWR there was a lot of activity around the Osprey Nests along the Wildlife Drive. It was in mating season and the Ospreys were busy on the nests. This image was when an other osprey kept trying to get to the nest. On this pass the defending Osprey almost went upside down with claws out defending the nest. Plus there was a lot of screeching of the birds going on. This was the best image of the series because the more it was going up to defend the nest I cut off some of the Osprey in the image. Not sure if there were eggs in the nest or just wanted the nest. Image taken with a 400mm f/4 DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIII.

These images are from a previous trip years ago to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Oceanville Division, in New Jersey. Along the Wildlife Drive there are quite a few Osprey platforms providing good opportunities to photograph Ospreys on nests. Quite often you can also see them with the Osprey nestlings. If you wait long enough you can see them bringing fish to the nests and feeding the chicks.

I was going through some older backup drives and found these files I never worked on from a Blackwater NWR trip about 8 years ago. I remember them now because these were taken on the Wildlife Drive when there used to be an Osprey platform close to the Wildlife Drive. This Osprey Platform was near the last turn before the straight way to the exit. This Osprey put on quite an aerial show. It was so close I clipped its wings a few times. I did not want to stay too long in case I was bothering the nest. But it was so close to the busy Wildlife Drive I would think it was used to cars. Maybe that is why it is now gone.

As we were driving on the Wildlife Drive at the J.N. Ding Darling NWR, we noticed the Osprey Platform was occupied. If you had a long lens and got fairly far down the road you could get some interesting images of them on the nest. The first few images were from closeby, looking more up at the nest. You can see they were looking at us. But I did not like how the nests looked messy and did not like the angle.
Closeup, Different Day
Views of different nest from farther away, along the Wildlife Drive. The nest looks cleaner and has nicer sky and more of a side view.

From a previous visit to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, I photographed this Osprey heading for it’s nest, coming in for a landing. There are lots of Ospreys flying around the Refuge, plus many Osprey platforms with nests that are along the Wildlife Drive. If you wait by one of the platforms along the Drive you can get good images of Ospreys flying in or flying out. Plus bringing fish to feed the young Ospreys.
