I am going through my collection of Backup Hard Drives looking for images to post on the blog. Now that I am retired I have time to post more often. For this post I am showing a Little Blue Heron on a tree top that was quite far in the distance in the Audubon Swamp Garden at the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in South Carolina. The Featured Image of the Little Blue Heron is a heavily cropped section from the first image below.
Magnolia Plantation Swamp Garden Landscapes

As you are entering Magnolia Gardens Audubon Swamp Garden you are walking along the Ashley River. The featured landscape is a 4 image panorama taken @ 14mm with a 14-140mm on an Olympus OM-D-E m1. As you are walking here you can see a lot of birds and some alligators on the other side of the path. It is a large open area so some of the Wildlife is far off in the distance, but you can see some birds & alligators close up if you are patient. Sometimes the Alligators are too close-up!
This was taken in the large open area before the boardwalk through the Swamp Garden.
Assorted Birds From Magnolia Plantation Audubon Swamp

The Audubon Swamp Garden on the grounds of Magnolia Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina is a 60 acre cypress and tupelo swamp. In the past the swamp served as a reservoir for the plantation’s rice cultivation. Now it is an interesting and easy Swamp to walk through on the trails and raised boardwalks to get some interesting images. For Wildlife we mostly saw a variety of birds and quite a few alligators on this visit. Most of the birds we saw were quite far out so even shooting @ 600mm I had to crop the images some. But it was still a Great area to photograph and to just see as we were walking through the Swamp Garden. The landscapes & cloudscapes in the swamp were very interesting also, but that will be a different post.

I photographed this Little Blue Heron at Magnolia Plantation & Audubon Swamp Gardens in South Carolina years ago. I found this image as I was cleaning up backup hard drives and decided to post it here. Image taken with a 100-400mm zoom lens @ 400mm.
Audubon Four Swamps & Audubon Swamp Garden in South Carolina

I was going through my drives, purging files I do not need and I found these images from many years ago from a trip to South Carolina. These are 2 versions I setup for wall art from images photographed at National Audubon Four Holes Swamp and the Audubon Swamp Garden next to the Magnolia Plantation in South Carolina many years ago. The National Audubon Society’s Francis Beidler Forest is located in Four Holes Swamp, SC contains within its 15,000 acres, the largest remaining stand of virgin Baldcypress and Tupelo Gum swamp forest left anywhere in the world. The 1.75-mile self-guiding boardwalk trail allows visitors the chance to safely venture deep into the swamp and not get lost. It is buggy in areas, especially with still waters, so be prepared with bug repellent!
Yellow-Crowned Night-Herons At Magnolia Gardens

On our way down to Florida, we stopped at Magnolia Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina. One of our favorite places to walk around and see what we can find to photograph. The flowers were a little past prime but it was still fun to walk through. They have quite a few Peacocks roaming through the Gardens making quite a bit of noise as they are squawking away as they roam. They seem very tolerant of people though. Attached to the Plantation is an Audubon Swamp Garden with trails to walk through. It is an interesting place to photograph and you never know what you will find to photograph. Here is a series of this Yellow-crowned Night-heron we saw along the way.
