Twelve-Spotted Skimmer Dragonfly Images

A series of Twelve-Spotted Skimmer Dragonfly images taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with an Extension Tube added for closer focusing on a Canon 1D mkIV. I was also using a Canon 600EX-RT Flash with a Better Beamer Flash Extender for filling in the shadows & to get more detail on the Dragonfly. All images are full frame, not cropped. I was shooting @ f/8 or f/11 for a smoother clean background.

Great Blue Heron Portrait

I photographed this Great Blue Heron at a local Wildlife Area where I used to live many years ago. It was on the shoreline early in the am along the path and I took a few photos and went on my way so not to bother the Heron. Image taken at 7am with a Canon 400mm DO lens, 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIV. I had the lens f/stop set wide open @ f/5.6 to get a softer smoother background. Because I had a 1.4x Teleconverter on the 400mm DO lens my lens aperture wide open went from f/4 to f/5.6.

Osprey Landing At Nest Series

A series of images showing an Osprey landing sequence on an Osprey Platform along the Wildlife Drive at the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, New Jersey. Images were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4X Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mk IV.

Red-tailed Hawk Images From Brigantine

A series of Red-Tailed Hawk images from a previous trip to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, NJ. I got quite a few images of this hawk which seemed very content to pose for me. Usually they fly off, but I was quite a distance away so it did not fly off. I was using a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1DmkIV.

Common Mergansers From Brigantine

A couple of images of Female Common Mergansers taken years ago at the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR in Oceanville NJ. Both were taken with a Canon 400mm DO lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter on a Canon 1D mkIV body.

White Ibis Foraging For A Meal

These images are from a trip to J.N. Ding Darling NWR a few years ago. We were walking early in the morning along the Wildlife Drive looking for birds that might be feeding in the water channels along the Drive. We came upon this White Ibis in the one of the channels. It did not take long before it found a meal. Images taken with a Canon 1D mkIV, 400mm Canon DO lens & Canon 1.4X Teleconverter.

Blue Dasher 3 Image Panorama

I found this male Blue Dasher Dragonfly on a small branch at a local park. I was using a 400mm DO lens on a Canon 1D mkIV thinking I would be photographing birds. But I had a set of extension tubes in my photo vest which enabled me to get a series of very closeup images to make a 3 horizontal image pano Portrait of the Blue Dasher. Images taken @ f/13 with fill flash (Canon 550 EX with a Better Beamer Flash Extender).

Golden-winged Skimmer Dragonfly – 4 Image Panorama

I was going through Backup Drives and came across this series of images of a Golden-Winged Skimmer Dragonfly (Male). This is a handheld 4 shot panorama taken with a 400mm Canon DO lens on a Canon 1D mk IV @ f/8 (for a smoother looking background). The panorama was aligned & assembled in Photoshop.
