Lately we have quite a few Eastern Amberwing Dragonflies in our yard. It is fun to watch them flying around in our gardens. For this post I am showing a series of Eastern Amberwing males. All images were taken with a Canon 300mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter on a Canon 7D.
They are gorgeous!
Thanks so much Eliza! They are fun to photograph!
Not sure I have ever seen that dragon before – a stunner.
Thanks so much! They are smaller than most dragonflies and I usually do not see many of them around. But lately we have a lot in our yard.
Looks like an acrobat in the first picture!
Yes! They are very quick & very busy darting around over a small area going to one plant to another!
Yes! They are very agile! They seem to like going to many plants in an area going quickly from one plant to another!
Such pretty wings, aptly named. Terrific shots, Reed.
Thanks so much Jane! They are fun photo subjects!
Awesome shots of this beautiful dragonfly that is not common where we live. Thanks for sharing 🙂

You got quite a fine collection of images of this beauty of an ode, Reed.
Thanks so much Steve! We have had quite a few Amberwings in our yard lately! Fun to have a bunch of subjects to photograph right outside our door!
Wonderful detail and backgrounds!
Thanks so much! I try to get smooth backgrounds but still have good detail on the dragonfly, especially on the wings! I usually use f/8 or f/11 but depends on how busy the background is and what lens I am using.
That’s a nice photographic haul.
Thanks Steve! We seem to have a lot of Amberwings in our yard & gardens year! Usually we had Blue Dashers, but only saw a couple this year.
