This is from a previous trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm & Rookery. I was just going through external Hard Drives to clean up some space and found this Roseate Spoonbill image. I thought it was an interesting image because it was looking down at me as I was looking up at the Spoonbill to photograph it. Also the pink Spoonbill really stood out against the background of the bright blue sky. Image taken with a Canon R with a Tamron 150-600mm lens @ 309mm.
They are SO pink!
YES! They are! But they do stand out with their pink coloring! Especially against a blue sky!
A very unique and intriguing pose for that spoon – rarely do I see them sitting above my head.typically and never see the feet before.
At this rookery they are usually in the trees near the tops. That is where most of their nests are. Usually they are interacting with other Spoonbills making quite a racket! This one was off to the side in the treetops looking quite lonesome!
Love this action shot, Reed! The wingspan is stunning!!
Thanks Donna! When you are fairly close to them it is amazing how Big they are! Also watching them interact with other Spoonbills is fun to watch & photograph! They seem be quite vocal and guard their territory! But you are able to get some interesting images!
